Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I wear to my classes?

A: Your Peaceful Dragon uniform (comfortable cotton pants and t-shirt) and sneakers or similar footwear. We occasionally go outside for classes in good weather, so bring an extra sweat shirt or two if it is cool out.

Q: Am I supposed to bring my notebook binder to every class?

A: No, you only need to bring it once a week to the boot camp seminar.

Q: If I ever feel pain or discomfort, should I still come to class and work out?

A: Yes, of course you should. It is normal to feel some discomfort at some point when exercising becomes part of your daily routine. Simply let your instructor know of problems or injuries before starting the class. You can simply modify or skip certain exercises or routines that aggravate the problem area.

Q: Should I do additional exercise outside of the Boot Camp classes?

A: At a minimum, you should practice your Tai Chi daily or at least regularly. If you already play sports or walk or jog regularly, you should keep it up. If you are just starting to exercise then stick to just the Boot Camp classes and Tai Chi practice for the first two months until your body adjusts to exercising. After your body has adjusted, then we suggest walking, jogging or a related activity on the days that you aren't in class. Moving feels good, and your mind and body will start to crave it!

Q: Is there a particular diet that goes along with the Boot Camp?

A: No, we do not advocate diets. We do however advocate an ongoing lifestyle of eating healthy and wholesome foods in sensible amounts, which you will learn about in your weekly seminar. Eating well will become easier and more enjoyable as you train your mind and erase poor habits.

Q: If I am coming to my classes regularly and eating correctly and I haven't lost any weight after a month or two am I doing something wrong?

A: Not necessarily. Muscle mass weighs much more than fat. As you are getting stronger and converting your fat to muscle, your weight might even go up a couple of pounds at first. But you should be feeling much stronger and healthier, and in time the pounds will start to drop off. If, after two to three months you haven't lost any inches or clothing sizes -- these are better indicators than pounds -- speak to Master Sbarge specifically about this and you'll work together to find out what to adjust.

Note: Our goal is for you to lose an average of one to two pounds per week, until you reach your optimum weight (approximately 50-100 lbs. per year).
