Frequently Asked Questions
About Children's Classes at The Peaceful Dragon

We've noticed that parents seem to ask certain questions while enjoying the exciting experience of enrolling their child at The Peaceful Dragon, so we thought giving you the answers right away would be a good idea...

All Children's Programs (Ages 3-13)

What exactly should my child wear to classes?

Your child should wear his or her Peaceful Dragon uniform: white t-shirt, black pants and the white sash. Any athletic shoe or sneaker is fine as long as it has non-marking soles. No jewelry, please (ear rings, necklaces watches, etc.), for safety of all of the children.

Which classes can my child come to?

Your child can come to the two classes that you chose when they enrolled, as well as one make up class per month as needed to make up for missed classes. Please always let us know if your child is going to miss class.

Should I encourage my child to practice outside of classes?

Yes, and we highly recommend it. It doesn't matter if you want your child to get in better shape, or develop better focus/disciplined, or become a better person, or learn to deal with bullies, or become more confident, daily practice can only help your child reach those goals faster.

How does the attendance system work?

In about two weeks you will receive your child's membership card in the mail. Every time your child comes to class, be sure to scan the card by the computer and it will help us keep track of his or her attendance.

How do I find the Members Section of the website to learn more about the program and the curriculum that my child will be learning?

Go to http://www.thepeacefuldragon.com/students.shtml. Under the Children's Program section you will find orientation, the curriculum and much more. Reviewing this thoroughly will be essential for you to participate in your child's progress.

What happens if my child has to miss a class?

You are allowed one free make-up class per month, which is held every Tuesday. The time depends on the age of your child. You will need to sign up for the make up class at the front counter so that we know how many instructors will be needed.

Should I bring my child in if we are late for class?

Make every effort not to be late for class. If you are late for some unavoidable reason, of course bring your child to class.

Tiny Tigers (Ages 3-4)

How do I know how my child is doing in the Tiny Tigers Program?

You will receive a Quarterly Progress Report assessing your child's progress in 5 different areas. On the members page, you'll find the link to the Tiny Tigers page. There you will find detailed information on the quarterly evaluations.

What is Tiny Tigers Level One and Level Two all about?

All Tiny Tigers begin in Level One class. After about three months, with good progress, attendance, and behavior, your child may be eligible to promote to the Tiny Tigers Level Two class, where they will be given an even more challenging curriculum. You will need to apply for your child to enter the Level Two class. You can find out more about the process by going to the Tiny Tigers section of the website.

Little Dragons and Young Dragons (Ages 5-13)

Can I bring my child to more classes to train more?

Yes, after your child has his or her first official promotion and passes from White Sash level 1 to White Sash level 2 (usually about three or four months) he or she is eligible to be invited to move from the introductory program to one of our regular memberships, either the Black Sash Club or the Leadership Club. Once your child is invited and joins one of these two programs you will be able to expand his or her training.

Why are there different color uniforms?

The white uniform shirt that you received when you signed your child up is to let us know at a glance who is in the Trial Introductory Program. The other colors are for our regular ongoing programs. Black t-shirts show who the Black Sash Club members are and purple t-shirts show who the Leadership Club members are.

Testing and promotion, what is that about?

To ensure the progression of all the students here, we have scheduled testing and Promotions for those students who successfully pass their test to the next level. Students are tested in class for their stripes, and are then promoted from one level to another quarterly at our Promotional Demonstration. This demonstration is very important for the children because it allows them to show what they have learned, get recognition for their accomplishments, and gain inspiration from seeing what other higher level students are doing.

I understand that there are take-home lessons that children get as part of their class. Are they required to do them?

Yes, they are part of the curriculum here and required to promote. Aside from this, they are very popular amongst the parents here and will enhance your child's progress in all areas immensely.

The above questions should be helpful and already covers a lot of ground - we will see you soon for your two week meeting where we will go into more detail and give you the chance to ask any questions you have.

Good luck and contratulations! You've joined a great program!
