Chinese New Year's Festival
Join over a billion people from China and neighboring countries in
celebrating the greatest holiday in East Asian culture - while staying
right here in Charlotte!
The Peaceful Dragon will be hosting its
annual Chinese New Year's Festival on Saturday, February 2, from 11am to 3 pm.
Fun for the entire family, the festival will begin with the ceremonial
Lion Dance meant to bring good luck to participants for the coming
year. Then throughout the afternoon you can enjoy exciting
demonstrations of Chinese martial arts and health arts including
Kungfu, Tai Chi and Yoga, plus a program of performing arts that
includes Chinese dance, music and more.
Local experts will be on hand to demonstrate and talk about such Asian
arts and practices as acupuncture and massage, as well as Lyn's Boot Camp.
The children's game room setup will have
face painting, arts & crafts, games and balloons.
In China, Taiwan and Vietnam where the holiday is celebrated weeks of
preparation take place, including cleaning, cooking and making travel
arrangements so entire extended families can be together.
Here in Charlotte, the Asian population has grown rapidly in recent
years and the holiday remains an important part of their lives.
Various Asian ethnic associations now have their own celebrations and
events around Charlotte. The Peaceful Dragon's celebration is open to
everyone and is particularly designed for Americans looking for the
chance to discover some of the wonders of authentic Asian culture.
Additional festival highlights include ongoing raffle drawings for
assorted prizes, and special festival discounts for joining the
classes offered at The Peaceful Dragon including tai chi, yoga,
kungfu, meditation and children's martial arts.
There will be delicious traditional Chinese noodles and holiday snacks for sale.
Suggested donation is $3 per family (free for Peaceful Dragon students).
All proceeds go to The Peaceful Dragon Scholarship Fund.

Day-long Kung Fu Marathon
Last year Master Sbarge and Mr. George ran a marathon race, which Master
Sbarge says he kind of enjoyed training for and sort of enjoyed running
(until his knees blew up). But he didn’t think it was nearly as much
fun as kung fu, which gave him the idea of holding a Kung Fu Marathon!
Our kung fu marathon is open to all adults (tai chi students as well as
kung fu), all teens, and kids aged 9 and above who are ranked green sash
and above.
You'll enjoy the challenge of Master Sbarge pushing you all day as you
learn new forms and work on conditioning, stretching, meditation, chi
kung, self-defense techniques, sparring and some secret things that you
will only learn about once you get close to The Dreaded Wall!!!
Pay and register by Saturday, Sept. 13 for early-bird savingsjust
$39. After Sept. 13 add $15.Â
