"I have increased my strength and flexibility, of course,
but I also have more awareness of my physical health. I
recognize when I need more rest, change in diet, more
stretching or strengthening, etc. I know my body better and
am in much better health than I was when I was younger. I
have more balance in my lifestyle and more confidence and
self-esteem.
"I enjoy the fact that there's so much to learn and Sifu
knows so much and challenges us all to do our best.
"The diversity! There are so many different types of people
who share a love of martial arts. I never get bored because
the people are great and the classes are challenging and
interesting."
Lyn Adams, 31, aerobics instructor, Indian
Trail, NC
"The Peaceful Dragon is not just a place where people go to
learn the physical aspects of the Martial Arts but there is
also the philosophy that reinforces the physical aspects. To
put it plainly the student gets the whole package of mind,
body, spirit development.
"The schedule is very helpful for me. My work schedule is so
unpredictable. Sometimes I work during the day, sometimes at
night (sometimes day and night), but I can still find time
for class."
Keith Burnett, 34, Charlotte, NC
"Many of my 'middle-age' problems (stiffness, backaches,
etc.) have greatly diminished. I'm in the best physical
shape that I've been in my whole life - I have more
strength, stamina and flexibility than I had at 25.
"Coming to the Peaceful Dragon has changed all aspects of my
daily life - teaching, playing music, driving, personal
relationships are all more balanced, relaxed and seem to
have more focus and perspective.
"I appreciate the serious, in-depth, no-nonsense approach to
our training. I always know I'm getting the "real thing"."
David Crowe, 57, musician, Charlotte, NC
"In my first year as a student I feel physically and
mentally challenged (which is a good thing). I enjoy the
slow, methodical form of training. George is excellent at
teaching the proper way! I really enjoy my association with
the Peaceful Dragon. Also, my wife and I love the food!

"I enjoy noticeably better balance, weight loss, improved
physical stamina, improved concentration, lower blood
pressure, and higher stress threshold.
"I am more focused on my music and have better discipline
when doing projects and setting my practice time."
David
Pankey, 53, Musician, Charlotte, NC

"I have better flexibility and calmness. Specifically, my
leg strength has increased and helps me endure throughout
the day.
"I am better able to cope with external stress since I have
trained here at The Peaceful Dragon.
"I've experienced excellent instruction and mentorship as
well as a great environment and people. Our instructor's
knowledge and ability to teach both physical and mental
aspects of martial arts is what I appreciate. All of my
fellow students are great people with good attitudes and
helpful beyond the class environment.
"I think the classes at The Peaceful Dragon have improved my
life considerably and I look forward to future
improvements."
David Block, 50, Sales, Charlotte, NC
"I enjoy a general improvement in health, am sick less often
and have more strength and endurance. Because of my training
at The Peaceful Dragon, I am less moody and rise to anger
less often.
"Our student body has accomplished harmony within a large
group of diverse people."
Matt Lail, 29, Massage
Therapist, Bessemer City, NC
"I have reached a level of fitness I have not achieved in
other programs. Not only am I leaner with better definition,
but also I am functionally strong and day-to-day activities,
such as stair climbing or heavy lifting no longer tire me.
"I have noticed a very positive lowering in my stress level.
Even very stressful situations are manageable and affect me
less due to breathing, relaxation, and just a more positive
and healthy outlook.
"I really enjoy classes taught by the disciples because I
like to see the things they enjoy. But Sifu's classes are
the perfect mix of hard and soft, difficult and easy, old
and new.
"I just enjoy being here. It is peaceful and uplifting to
come and take a class or have a meal. On training days, I
look forward to coming all day.
"Because my family is thousands of miles away, this has
become a wonderful extended family."
Jennifer Shults, 34,
Chemist, Charlotte, NC
"When I joined I was borderline diabetic. This is my fifth
year at the Peaceful Dragon and I am proud to say that my
last blood testing my levels were within normal range. This
is without medication; just a change in diet and the
exercise program at The Peaceful Dragon.
"The theory of letting go has flowed through to my work
environment, which is a good thing.
"I thoroughly respect the knowledge and patience of the
instructors and the depth of the curriculum.
"I enjoy the family environment."
Marcia Ilardo, Accounting,

"I have fewer aches and pains in general and more
flexibility and strength. When I had a herniated disk, it
hurt to pick up a glass of water, but the tai chi helped me
regain the strength in my arms.
"Our instructors utilize "instruction with patience" and do
not correct every mistake. They teach a wide variety of
exercises and their applications as well how they can be
used for self-defense.
"I like the whole package - Sifu with his patience and sense
of humor; our extended family; the calmness of my mind; my
increased strength, flexibility and self-confidence.
"How can anyone not want to be here?"
Tina Dickens,
Financial Secretary, South Charlotte, NC
"I have severe knee problems. I have seen much improvement
in my ability to twist. My knees are still and always will
be unable to do some stances, but the surrounding build up
of strength helps the knee.
"I find that many of the people that come to The Peaceful
Dragon have focus and joy in being calm.
"Often in teaching the outside pressures overwhelm the sense
of peace within the classroom. The Peaceful Dragon allows me
to regain my focus - letting go of the outer world - turning
again to the child.
"What I find most respectful of our instructors is their
patience, their high standards and their understanding: both
of their purpose and responsibilities and with their stances
and forms."
Barbara S. Dubinsky, 54, Montessori Teacher,
Fort Mill, SC
"I like how each person who attends classes here is expected
to apply the teachings to their own lives. Now that I have
trained here for this long, I probably could not train at
another school. We don't have a belt system and we are not
competitive, but we each know what we are trying to do,
which is to creating an emphasis on self-discipline that
many of us need.
"I have noticed much better flexibility and overall body
strength; muscles are more evenly developed; posture at
circumstances.
"My training at The Peaceful Dragon has helped me become
more balanced in terms of work and the rest of my life as
well as with my interaction with others, etc. I have been
eating well since I have been vegetarian for a few years
now. My workout regime combined with good eating habits and
plenty of yoga has made a dramatic impact on how I feel day
to day.
"I think the instruction here is real and based on correct
fundamentals as well as infused with the meditative aspect
that is presumed to be the essence of the arts."
Brett
Shults, 34, Banking, Charlotte, NC

"I have lost more than 50 lbs and my diabetes (Type II) has
stabilized without the use of drugs.
"Since I started at The Peaceful Dragon I am eating better,
have more energy and I am more willing to tackle difficult
tasks.
"The instructors here teach without being too overbearing.
"I enjoy the encouragement of the other Peaceful Dragon
students who are trying to reach the same goals I am.
Everyone should give it (training at The Peaceful Dragon) a
try, it's bound to help."
Tim Myers, Northwest, 47,

"I now have better concentration, which means better use of
my study time."
Eric Mullis, 27, Teacher/Thinker, Columbia,

"What you get at the Peaceful Dragon is the real deal - not
something watered down. You are always encouraged to do your
best and not compare yourself with other students.
"The Peaceful Dragon is the 'Harvard' of martial arts
schools - one of the top curriculums and one of the most
beautiful facilities in the country. It is a privilege to
study here. Even if you've never had much athletic ability
you'll be surprised at what you can accomplish. I've done
aerobics and swimming and weight training, but I've never
been in better shape than I am from studying at the Peaceful
Dragon.
"Sifu Eric Sbarge sets such a beautiful example of
leadership and integrity. I have so much more stamina and
strength since I started here. I never thought I'd have
anything like muscles, but I do! Everyone, no matter their
age, shape, or ability, is welcomed and encouraged."
"My training here has helped me to let a lot more things
roll off my back. Things are more harmonious at home and at
work. I also eat better and take better care of myself.
"You could not ask for a friendlier, more supportive group
of people to train with. I am a pretty slow learner, but
everyone here is so patient and helpful."
"I feel so energized and so positive life seems brighter. I
came to The Peaceful Dragon for better health but I didn't
know I would find deeper spirituality."
Kathy Crowe,
Designer/Illustrator, Charlotte, NC
"I have been taking classes at the Peaceful Dragon for over
6 years. I appreciate the opportunity to take classes in a
traditional Tai Chi school. Since being a student here I
have experienced a greater degree of relaxation and reduced
stress. My flexibility has increased as well.
"I've experienced the highest quality teaching her at The
Peaceful Dragon. I think it is important to choose a teacher
carefully. The teachers at The Peaceful Dragon are excellent
in terms of Tai Chi knowledge. I find it is also very
important that this is a traditional Tai Chi school.
"All the people who come here are happy, relaxed, good
people."
Charles Butler, 59, Consultant, Charlotte, NC
"I am stronger and more flexible than when I began eight
years ago. I have better balance; for example I can pick up
my foot and tie my tennis shoes without undue effort. I can
do yoga stretches that I would not have imagined I could do
at this age.
"I am calmer and not as easily frustrated by adversity since
I started tai chi at The Peaceful Dragon. Small irritations
seem less important and I think I am more patient. I have
also learned to compliment more and criticize less.
"The Peaceful Dragon's instructors have a thorough knowledge
of the martial and meditative aspects of the arts and teach
without egotism or show. The curriculum is a full system of
physical and spiritual fitness.
"All of the students at The Peaceful Dragon are interested
in learning their martial arts. They are non critical and
diverse and they're fun people to spend time with too."

"As an older student, I was very concerned about my health,
particularly in the areas of strength and flexibility. The
training I have done at The Peaceful Dragon over the last 7
years has increased both. The process of getting healthy has
been fun."
"The classes at The Peaceful Dragon, while demanding, are
fitted to accommodate one's age and state of health. We
strive to push ourselves, but are free to take care of
ourselves in the process." "The curriculum at The Peaceful
Dragon has been another tool in my life long pursuit of
'maturity.' As Sifu once said - 'the most important thing we
learn is to love.'
"My instructors here work very hard at their art. They take
what they teach seriously, teach with respect and
demonstrate how to have fun as we work.
"I enjoy the variety of students that attend our school.
They are young and old, male and female, but all are equal
in the eyes of our art form."
Stuart Edmondson, 54,
Engineer, Charlotte, NC
"I have achieved greater energy and vitality. I am less
stressed and a little less insane."
"There are very few things that you could do to change your
life for the better than taking classes at The Peaceful
Dragon."
Wes Adams, 33, Financial Advisor, Indian Trail, NC

aware of my surroundings. My outlook is more positive and
I've noticed that I am more calm than I used to be in
certain situations.
"Master Sbarge is very knowledgeable in the arts and is an
effective teacher. The curriculum is very comprehensive and
challenging and a joy to learn. The instructors are great.
"The atmosphere at The Peaceful Dragon is very calm and
conducive to learning the arts."
Dale F. Guadagna, 37,
Solutions Development Manager, Southwest Charlotte, NC
"I have discovered after 8 years that change, and perception
of change take time, and that real change acquires meaning
with time. The opportunity to learn from and observe this
process has been unique in my life to my experience at the
Peaceful Dragon. Added benefits have been greater
relaxation, mentally and physically; increased stamina;
calmer mind; better mental acuity; better self-esteem and I
hope more (truer) humility along with a deeper understanding
of and commitment to Wu-de."
"I have more patience, more humor, and a simpler outlook on
life."
"When asked questions about to do something or not, whether
a choice is valuable or not, Sifu famously comments that
'the time is going to go by anyway.' Indeed it is.
"I enjoy the chance to improve at all personal levels
through artful practice which is then carried into daily
activity. The connection continues to strengthen every year
I train.
"They keep me young and help me grow old gracefully."
Michael Ballantyne, 54, Quality Manager/Tech Service,
Pineville, NC
"I enjoy better balance, coordination and flexibility from
my training. I have learned to be more aware of my thoughts
and therefore more responsible for myself. I enjoy the
physical workout as well as the relaxed and quiet
atmosphere. I also enjoy the social group of people who are
interested in self improvement.
"We have friendly students who are not excessively
competitive and are encouraging toward each other."
Vincent
Stubbs, 39, Carpenter, Charlotte, NC
"One year ago, I started here for my back problems. I had
heard for years of the physical benefits of Tai Chi and for
the last couple of years I had been eating painkillers and
hardly able to work. Four weeks after starting classes I
threw away the pills and have not even been back to the
doctor."
"I've noticed that my life isn't as hurried and that I can
take life as it comes."
Charles Sullivan, 44, York, SC

"The classes here provide me with stress relief, temper
control, better balance, and more relaxation. My Tai Chi
practice has become a part of my lifestyle. It helps me
relax in tense moments.
"This is the first martial arts instruction in which I feel
the instructor holds real and deep understanding. The
instruction is rooted in the real Tai Chi, not watered down
'just for Americans' or a type that is solely based on being
a successful business. It's based on traditional
instruction.
"Everyone comes to learn, both advanced and beginner
students. Egos are left at the door. More advanced students
are always willing to help newer students."
Russell White,
38, Engineer/President, Charlotte, NC
"I used to be an avid long distance runner, so when my knees
gave out, I was looking for an alternative. I have been
taking classes here for 3 years now, and I am the healthiest
I have ever been. Unlike running and other 'Western'
workouts, Chinese classes are a full body workout. In
addition, workouts are not just stress reduction, but stress
elimination. I find myself now more relaxed and more 'aware'
than ever before. With more energy, I am a much better
consultant.
"I LOVE the no belt system! I feel we can all focus on real
learning and not on what I need to do to get to the next
'level'.
"We are all 'brothers.' I like this thought. We are all on
the same journey here (health and happiness). This is the
true focus of the Peaceful Dragon to me.
"The best thing about my training is getting away from work.
Classes are a 'Mini-holiday' for me!"
Jim Hart 47, Business
Consultant
"Since beginning Tai Chi I generally feel more relaxed and
calm. I am also achieving improved balance and posture.
Besides increased relaxation, I feel I am learning that I
have more control over my mind/thought processes and that I
can slow them down."
Suzanne Hart 45, Homemaker
"I have extremely high blood pressure. Since taking the
classes my blood pressure has dropped dramatically (almost
back to normal). I've gone from 178 pounds to 160 pounds in
less than 2 months. I have less stress as well and control
the stress I do have. Literally my whole life has changed
since I've been coming here. I meditate more, I'm happier
and have a better sense of control in my life.
"I often tell my friends that I have to go the Shaolin
'Temple' instead of to martial arts school due to the fact
that I feel most peaceful here and it's almost like escaping
from the stress and activity of the modern world! 'Seek for
a teacher, one will come along eventually.'"
Timothy M.
Starnes, 36, Computer Tech, Roxboro, Charlotte, NC

calmer and my focus at work is much sharper.

any age or type of person. The instructors treat every
student with respect and help the student reach the highest
level of martial arts they are capable of.
"The students here all work together to further their
knowledge of the arts.
"The Peaceful Dragon has provided a life changing experience
for me that I know will have many benefits today and as I
grow older. I changed to a vegetarian diet which greatly
improved many aspects of my health and attitude. My attitude
toward others is more patient, friendly and open. My family
notices a much happier person."

and more flexible.
"The students here are like family (The good side)."
Sam

"I began taking classes at the Peaceful Dragon at the same
time I began radiation treatment for breast cancer. These
classes helped me recover and improve my health immensely. I
truly believe that I have remained cancer free these last
two years due in part to my continued participation in these
classes.

"Our student body is accepting of all students no matter
what their skill level."
Leslie Carlson, 45, Landscape

me get through surgery easily with very little pain.
"I sleep better and my ability to concentrate is much
improved. I have a better outlook and handle stress much
more easily.

more open to the beauty of being quiet and observing my
surroundings."
Kathy Blanchard, 54, Registered Nurse,

self-discipline and diet. My experience here has helped me
realize that balance, in every aspect of life, is the key.

body and spirit. The students here are humble and helpful."

'now'), to let go of the past and to not think so much about
what's going to happen in the future.

"Kenneth was extremely shy when he first started one year
ago. He has demonstrated a complete turn around, he is not
intimidated by any situation any more.
"He has asthma and since he has started Kung Fu, he has not
had any attacks.
"Consistency in the curriculum is what I believe to be the
strongest quality. Kenneth enjoys working with his
instructor George and talking to the owners Master Eric
Sbarge and Debra Sbarge, whom he calls the 'counter lady.'
Most of all, he likes any bag or target he can punch or
kick.
"Everyone that comes to The Peaceful Dragon has a certain
calm about themselves."
Tara and Kenneth, parents of Kenneth White, 5, Charlotte
"Eryn has lost weight, is more toned and gets a good aerobic
workout in her classes. She is more diligent, determined,
and more responsible for scheduling.
"The teachers here are very encouraging, and they teach so
you can learn at your own pace. The parents and students
that come to The Peaceful Dragon are friendly, encouraging
and have varied interests."
Becky and Larry, parents of Eryn Thompson, 15, Charlotte, NC
"Everyone here is friendly and encouraging. People seem
always willing to assist and share what they have learned
with others. No-one is too competitive. The instructors are
patient and they teach at a level that makes learning fun.
"Arren tends to think more about what he is doing and is
willing to try new things. His coordination and confidence
have really improved."
Elaine and Paul, parents of Arren Sevigny, Charlotte, NC
"Melissa is more confident and much happier. She doesn't get
any more nervous stomach aches, her asthma is much better
and her endurance is stronger.
"The Peaceful Dragon's instructors encourage the children to
do their best without making them feel inadequate when they
can't do certain aspects. They are friendly to the students
and the curriculum challenges them on an ongoing basis.
"The parents and students who stick with the program seem to
have similar qualities. They all seem to be honest, hard
working, with positive attitudes and are dedicated to
improving the quality of their lives."
Sam and Marcia, parents of Melissa Ilardo, 14 Charlotte, NC
"Macie is like a flower that's bloomed. A year ago she was
shy and uncomfortable with herself, now she has more
confidence at school as well at the Peaceful Dragon. Macie
used to fear most new experiences, yet, only after one year,
she is trying new foods, going on amusement rides, sliding
down banisters and beginning to have fun.
"Macie is no longer afraid to speak up for herself and her
beliefs. Her strength is the biggest change I see in her
behavior. She stood alone defending the value of studying in
a class debate. She was horrified, but still defended her
position.
"The teachers here are full of encouragement, understated
strength, friendliness and self confidence. The strong
emphasis on basics and high expectations is great for the
kids. Macie is beginning to believe that she can teach her
body coordination. She likes feeling accepted and part of a
family atmosphere.
"People come to The Peaceful Dragon, not to kick and punch
only, but for the philosophy, serenity and self discipline.
We are all friends here and it feels good even to the
parents. No parent or student could go wrong with The
Peaceful Dragon's ethics. Many schools talk the talk, but
The Peaceful Dragon walks the walk."
Leslie and Rick, parents of Macie Imholt, 11 Matthews, NC
"Jonathan is much more excited about everything since
starting classes. He is much more active and has more
willingness to do different things and he really enjoys
getting to meet new people and make new friends.
"The instructors here are very positive and I think that
they are teaching the qualities that our children can take
into adulthood.
"It takes a village to raise a child! We like to think of
the Peaceful Dragon as our village."

"My children like learning the martial arts. They especially
like learning something that they thought they were
incapable of, but now they can do it. They are proud to show
others what they've learned. They also enjoy the friendships
made.
"Timmy had to do 15 kicks while hopping on the other foot in
PE at school. He said he did his crane stance and did it. He
was one of the few that could and was very proud. Jareth put
on 15 pounds during the summer, and both kids are gameboy
junkies. Jareth loves to show his acting class anything new
he learns at the Peaceful Dragon. This gets them active and
they love it. They are always ready to go to class.
"Timmy has a hard time focusing and likes to be the class
clown, but he takes this class very seriously and has become
more disciplined. Jarreth was shy and easily picked on, but
he has learned confidence and improved his self esteem.
"The motivation of The Peaceful Dragon's instructors is the
best. They push just a little past the students' performance
so when the kids accomplish the task they get a great sense
of pride and confidence. The instructors also know what each
child's abilities are and help them get to the next level at
their own pace. Sifu Eric, Debra, George and everyone are
very nice and easy to talk to. Everyone is always wanting to
help and make you feel at home.
"Everyone is very kind and like family. I have made several
friendships here. I am shy, but the people here are so
friendly, you can't help but make friends."
Terri and Randy, parents of Jareth Brown, 12 & Timmy Brown,
10 Charlotte, NC
"Carrie has gained self esteem and self confidence. She also
has increased her endurance and has no problem running the
required distances at school. She has also learned to focus,
so her attention span has increased. She has a better
attitude, is more positive in her thinking and more health
conscious.
"The biggest problem Carrie has is that the more she learns
the more she wants to do, she likes everything about the
arts that much!
"All the parents here are working to one goal, which is the
improvement of our children's lives."
Carolene and Bryan, parents of Carrie Chun, 15 Charlotte,
NC
"Thank you for all that you are doing with Matthew, we know
that you are a good influence on him. He has more self
control and is more confident.
"Our teachers are very professional and inspire our kids to
be better people. Not only do we like the discipline, but
our son does as well. Of course, he also likes all the
exercises they have to do in class."
Karina and Cyril, parents of Matthew Gaydos, Charlotte, NC
"The staff is always friendly and the instructors are very
patient with the children. Kevin's maturity level has
increased."
